History
Located at the very end of the silk road, nestled in the foothills of the Pennines, Adamley Textiles is one of the last remaining printers in a place once the centre of the English silk-weaving industry and the world’s largest producer of finished silk.
Ever since the 1700’s, silk has played an important part of life in the town of Macclesfield. Generations of local communities have relied on weaving, dyeing, printing and finishing silk as a source of employment; adopting and perfecting ancient skills and techniques which earned English silks a worldwide reputation for excellence.

The power of river
This extraordinary expansion was due to Macclesfield’s good transport links to other markets, as many silk products travelled via the canal system to London. In addition, the river Bollin, that runs through the town, provided power for the numerous mills, and its water was soft enough for use in silk processing.
The Adamley site is located next to the river and had its own water-wheel and soon enough it grew from just providing fabric finishing to the town’s mills, to dyeing and printing fine silks, which remain Adamley’s specialities. To this day, Adamley continues to utilise the water sources of the River Bollin throughout all stages of silk production.

Our luxury silk scarves
We have worked with Adamley Textiles since 2022 to bring luxury silk scarves to our customers. Our premium-quality silk is woven in a twill structure for better drape; looking closely one can see fine diagonal lines running across the fabric revealing its twill weave structure. The silk base is beautiful, lightweight and soft to the touch. For our products, which have a lot of colour and detail, we use Adamley’s state-of-the-art digital printers that transform any hand-drawn or digital artwork into the most flawless photographic print.
If you have held one of our silk scarves you would also instantly notice the beautiful hand-rolled hems.
