FABRIC CARE GUIDE:
CASHMERE
Often one of the most precious items in our wardrobe, cashmere is a unique and luxurious fibre, taking four cashmere goats to provide enough material for a single garment. Here are some tips on how to keep your cashmere soft, clean and long-lasting so you can enjoy wearing it for years to come. Our suppliers, together with our product developers, carefully create care labels with instructions for each specific style, so following the individual care label instructions on your garment is the best way to take care of your cashmere.
01 |DE-PILLINGFirst, check if it needs de-pilling. Cashmere fibres naturally form small fibre balls on top of the fabric, especially after the first few wears. This is normal and does not indicate bad quality. It happens because shorter fibres (and there are always shorter and longer fibres in natural fabrics) come to the surface of the garment and intertwine. |
02 |WASHINGCashmere, like wool, has incredible antibacterial properties which means that it still feels fresh after multiple wears. Often airing the garment or a quick steam can refresh the garment just as well. |
03 |DRYINGCashmere garments should be first dried by pressing a dry towel against the washed knitwear. If you have a large towel available, place the garment on top of it and gently roll it. This will transfer all the excess water onto the towel without altering the shape of the garment. |
04 |STORINGBeing a natural animal fibre cashmere can attract moths, so it is important to store it correctly. It is useful to know that moths like dark quiet spaces and are attracted by stained clothing. So, if you’re wearing your cashmere garments all year round, try to keep them at the front of your wardrobe and ensure they are always clean. |
05 |EXTRA TIPSTo avoid moths, use natural repellents such as cloves, rosemary, thyme, dried orange peel, cedarwood or lavender. You can simply wrap these in a handkerchief or buy specially made cedar wood balls or natural anti-moth sachets. Place them next to your garment but remember that they lose their effect over time, so may need replacing after a while. |
